Job Responsibilities Under general supervision this position is responsible for maintaining security, order and control of inmates transported to and/or housed in local regional hospitals within a 1 hour 15 drive from the institution.
Incumbent must remain alert and aware of escape risks inherent with transporting inmates outside the secure confines of the institution.
Responsible for maintaining a clear, factual, concise and permanent log of all events to include staff assigned, all visitors to the post, all inmate activities and any other incidents or emergencies related to this post.
Ensure proper documents are sent with the inmate.
Conducts routine, unannounced security checks.
Prepares/writes incident reports.
Assigned to the institution when hospital duty is not necessary.
Must successfully complete eight (8) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

A high school diploma.
(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma.
Eighteen (18) months of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
Must successfully complete Basic Certification Training at the South Carolina Department of Corrections Training Academy within six (6) months of entry into the position.
