About the Position: This is an interdisciplinary position which may be filled under any of the following titles and occupational series, depending on the qualifications of the applicant and needs of the agency:
Supervisory Archeologist, GS-0193-14;
Natural Resources and Environmental Officer, GS-0401-14;
Supervisory General Engineer, GS-0801-14;
Supervisory Environmental Engineer, GS-0819-14; or
Supervisory Physical Scientist, GS-1301-14.
The Army career management system is designed to meet Army staffing needs in professional, technical, and administrative jobs common to most activities. Occupational series are aligned into consolidated groupings, based on common technical functions, associated command missions, and position knowledge, skills and abilities. This is a Career Program-18 (Engineers and Scientists)position.
Fort Jackson is approximately 210 miles east of Atlanta, GA (I-20); 88 miles northeast of Augusta, GA (I-20); 121 miles northwest of Charleston, SC (I-26), and 95 miles south of Charlotte, NC (I-77). Fort Jackson''s location is close to the Columbia metropolitan area and an easy drive to Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah, Charleston, Charlotte, the beaches along the Atlantic Ocean, and the mountains. It is also close to NASCAR auto racing, an abundance of outdoor activities for individuals and families (lakes, rivers, fishing, hunting, golf, Riverbanks Botanical Gardens and Zoo, Carowinds Theme Park, and more), and all four major professional sports (Basketball, Baseball, Football, and Hockey).

As a Supervisory Archeologist, Natural Resources and Environmental Management Officer, Supervisory General Engineer, Supervisory Environmental Engineer or Supervisory Physical Scientist,you will:
Serve as the senior staff consultant on all environmental program requirements at a large multi-mission installation, which has been designated as a most optimized strategically responsive garrison within the Installation Management Command.
Provide program oversight of activities related to compliance, conservation, restoration and pollution prevention.
Function as the senior environmental manager with responsibility for installation-wide execution of the full spectrum of the Army Environmental Program.
Provide technical program direction and coordination of a large installation environmental quality program requirements, including, but not limited to air pollution, water resources, solid and hazardous materials/wastes, noise management, petroleum, oil and lubricant spill contingency planning; underground storage tanks; installation restoration/contaminated site cleanup; asbestos and radon management and mitigation; hazardous waste disposal; natural and cultural resources; environment impact analysis; environmental requirements applicable to closing installations.
Be responsible for planning, programming and directing the mission of the division.
Exercise delegated authority to make decisions and commitments of a binding nature based on a broad knowledge of regulatory and statutory requirements as well as the views of superiors.

Basic Requirement: The Basic Requirement for each series is identified below. You MUST meet the basic requirements of the applicable series along with the experience required below to meet the minimum requirements.
(Basic -Archeologist, GS-0193)
A. A degree that included 3 semester hours each in the history of archeology; archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa; regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development; theory and methods of archeology (methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques), and Archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work AND six semester hours of related course work in geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography, or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition), and/or surveying; AND Archeological field school. RELATED CURRICULUM: A degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline which provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in A above, including archeological field school.
OR
B. College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education.
OR
C. Four (4) years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project.
(Basic - General Engineer, GS-0801 and Environmental Engineer, GS-0819)
A. Degree: Professional engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
B. Combination of education and
Experience: Successful completion of college level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:
a)Professional Registration -- Current registration as a professional engineer by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Absent other means of qualifying under this standard, those applicants who achieved such registration by means other than written test (e.g., State grandfather or eminence provisions) are eligible only for positions that are within or closely related to the specialty field of their registration.
b) Written Test -- Evidence of having successfully passed the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration, which is administered by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
c) Specified academic courses-- Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements. The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of a professional engineering curriculum as described in paragraph A.
d) Related curriculum -- Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor''s degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field, e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
(Basic - Natural Resources and Environmental Management Officer, GS-0401)
A. A degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
(Basic - Physical Scientist, GS-1301)
A . A physical science, engineering, or mathematics degree that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
B. A combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Experience required: To qualify based on your work experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: providing program oversight of activities related to compliance, conservation, restoration, and pollution prevention; providing technical environmental and natural resource program direction and coordination of a large environmental quality program, including, but not limited to, air pollution, water resources, solid and hazardous materials/wastes, noise management, petroleum, oil and lubricant spill contingency planning, underground storage tanks, restoration/contaminated site cleanup, asbestos and radon management and mitigation, natural and cultural resources, and environmental impact analysis; planning, programming, and directing organizational activities regarding environmental and natural resource program management, and making decisions and commitments of a binding nature based on a broad knowledge of regulatory and statutory environmental and natural resource management requirements, as well as, the views of higher-level management officials.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
