## Main purpose of job
This position is responsible for static and dynamic analyses of the designs of centifugal and axial fans. This includes obtaining all relevant information, creating the computer models, running the analysis software and evaluation of the results. The Engineering Design Analyst is expected to offer suggestions for design optimization where indicated from results, and recognize general trends toward the further development of design and best practices rules and procedures.
## Accountabilities
1. Communicates with others and conducts research to obtain all information relevant to each design analysis.
2. Creates computer models accurately, reflecting the dimensions and structure, properties and boundary conditions of the designs.
3. Works in accordance with, and further develops best practice procedures in executing analyses.
4. Executes static and dynamic analyses; interprets results accurately and efficiently.
5. Confers with other engineers, discussing results and offering suggestions for design optimization or modification as needed.
6. Creates complete technical report(s) for each analysis, including tabulated results, interpretation and calculations, charts and plots. Reports will be distributed both internally and externally.
7. Maintains records of analysis project files and reports for reference.
8. Partners with all central functions such as Quality, Finance, IT and HR to ensure that enabling strategies and tactics are in place and are consistent with broader business strategies and tactics.
9. Engages in continuous improvement for processes included in and adjacent to job role. Recognize and resolve customer satisfaction issues (both internal and external).
10. Follows safe work practices by attending all required EH&S; training, reporting safety incidents and near misses on a timely basis and maintaining the goal of zero lost time incidents.
11. Other duties as assigned by management.
## Skills, Knowledge & Behaviors
### _Essential skills, knowledge & behaviors_
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
Ability to perform and understand engineering calculations.
Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Computer literate with either knowledge of or the ability of rapidly learn engineering selection programs, business systems, Microsoft Office and Project, Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills, including proficiency in technical writing of engineering reports.
### _Desirable skills, knowledge & behaviors_
Minimum of 1 year experience within an air and gas handling, rotating equipment or heavy industrial firm.
Experience with FEA software - MSC Nastran and Patran.
PE certification is desirable.

Complexity and Creativity
Selection of the most appropriate modelling scheme for a given analysis can be difficult, especially for an analysis of a type or product not previously performed.
The MSC software is complex, and not particularly user friendly. It can require significant research to successfully complete certain types of analysis.
Interpretation of customer specifications regarding the analysis, and discussion thereof with the customer, can require flexibility and creative thinking.

The job requires mostly independent work, overseen and assisted by a more experienced analyst as necessary. It is expected the associate will quickly learn and follow previously established best practices, and will continue to develop those practices as experience improves. Reports on the work require manager authorization before release.
