Summary:
Performs all duties necessary to operate and maintain boilers and other auxiliary equipment necessary for producing steam for heat and sterilization and chillers for space and equipment cooling for the hospital and associated campus buildings.

Responsibilities:
Operate and maintain boilers and chillers at a safe and reliable standard. This includes being proficient at starting, stopping, and switching between boilers as appropriate. Also, performing and documenting periodic checks to ensure operating conditions are within tolerance. Logs must be current and complete for operational data as well as fuel oil consumption.
Responsible for performing both unscheduled and preventive maintenance related repairs for all energy facility equipment.
Proficient in troubleshooting and diagnosing control related repairs. Involves repairing and/or replacing broken or worn parts, e.g., valves, meters, levers, pumps, etc.
Responsible for completing operational procedures with respect to water treatment, boiler, chiller, cooling tower and other energy facility operations. Enter events in daily journal when assigned.
Ensures blow down and pressure relief valves are operating properly. Also, checks water level controls, water column, relief valves, and water gauge glass float switches for proper operation on a regular basis.
Maintain equipment in a safe and orderly manner and responds to emergency calls. This includes completing work orders in a complete and timely manner to include all housekeeping duties when work is complete.
Responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the boiler room(s) or central Facility. This involves keeping the floors washed and clean as well as wiping down and painting equipment regularly to maintain appearance.
Ensure work is performed with the utmost awareness for safety and hygiene. Also, ensures proper Lock-out Tag-out procedures are being followed.
Responsible for maintaining written records of equipment maintenance, PM and periodic inspections as required by appropriate regulatory agencies. i.e. City of Columbia, DHEC, JCAHO. This includes but is not limited to fuel usage logs and other air permit documentation in support of annual air permit filings.
Proficient at monitoring and operating equipment using building management software similar to Johnson Control Metasys or Siemens equipment control software.
Assist with developing and maintaining operational and preventive maintenance procedures for the energy facility and equipment. Responsible for maintaining technical manuals and drawing files of all energy facility drawings for the equipment and the facility.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Education: High School Graduate and 1-2 years special training or 4 years apprenticeship
Experience: 3-5 years minimum
Number and Type of Employees Supervised: No supervision is required
Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: Power engineer license preferred, valid SC driver's license with a proven (MVR report) good driving record for previous 3 years. Must pass driver training within 6 months of hire.
Special Training: Chiller and boiler operation controls, building management software similar to Johnson Controls Metasys, energy facility operations and maintenance experience and computer literate
