Summary:
Proficient and accurate in all aspects of laboratory testing of section to which assigned. Performs and is responsible for department operations as assigned. Responsibilities:
Laboratory Testing: Performs and reports test results for waived, moderate and high complexity clinical laboratory test procedures as assigned and outlined in the standard operating procedure (SOP) manuals. Demonstrates proficiency, competency and understanding of fundamental principles of clinical laboratory procedures. Documents work processes as required. Operates computerized laboratory data systems/applications as assigned.
Quality Control/Quality Management (QC/QM): Participates in QC/QM for area assigned. Reviews quality control for acceptability while performing testing and notifies lead technologist/supervisor/manager of unresolved issues. Evaluates results and specimen integrity based on department standard operating procedures (SOPs) and reports discrepancies to lead technologist/supervisor/manager. Monitors supply/reagent inventory and uses laboratory resources efficiently.
Problem Solving/Critical Thinking: Investigates and resolves technical problems, consults lead technologist/supervisor/manager as needed. Effectively operates laboratory instrumentation/equipment. Performs and documents maintenance and function/operational checks on instrumentation. Identifies real or potential situations or detects equipment malfunctions; troubleshoots the problem with lead technologist/supervisor/manager or service representative and documents appropriately.
Regulatory/Safety/Compliance: Complies with policies and PGRs for Palmetto Health system, facility and laboratory. Understands and complies with standards and conditions set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies in assigned operational area. Performs competency assessments as assigned. Maintains a safe working environment.
Teamwork: Acts independently, to include organizing and setting priorities with minimal to no technical supervision. Recognizes customer satisfaction issues and responds/escalates appropriately. Provides instruction and training for students, new team members, laboratory support staff, and hospital personnel. Assumes charge tech responsibility when assigned. Willingly performs and completes team assignments and other duties as assigned.
Communication: Communicates effectively in person, by phone and in writing. Maintains open communication with laboratory leaders, pathologists, and fellow team members. Communicates pertinent information to other members of the healthcare team. Uses positive interpersonal skills to educate/support laboratory customers.
Continuing Education: Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education; accesses training needs and participates in Continuing Education (CE) programs annually achieving, at a minimum of 12 hours. Participates and meets requirements of competency assessment, and proficiency testing as assigned.
System/Facility/Department Goals & Initiatives: Supports Palmetto Health system and facility financial, customer service and quality initiatives in a positive and productive manner. Participates in work unit action plans and supports department-based goals and initiatives which contribute to the success of the organization.
Requirements:
Education: Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory/Medical Laboratory Technology leading to ASCP BOC certification.
Experience: MLT clinical training.
Licensure, Registry or Certification Required: ASCP BOC Technician certification. The ASCP BOC Credential Maintenance Program (CMP) is required for all individuals who are newly certified beginning January 1, 2004. To maintain ASCP BOC certification, the CMP must be completed every three years and documentation must be provided.
Special Training: Knowledge and skills to perform laboratory tests on patients of all ages. Able to meet the physical requirements of the position as designated by the Occupational Risk Assessment (ORA).

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
