Communications Manager

Position Summary
This position assists the Vice President, Marketing and Communications in administration, coordination, creation and implementation of all elements of the marketing, public relations and advertising functions of the United Way of the Midlands. Specifically this position will be responsible for managing United Way's online presence and media relations among other duties.
Essential DUTIES & Responsibilities
Create, brand and promote communication concepts that represent the mission and objectives of United Way of the Midlands' Community Impact, Campaign, special initiatives and other community outreach efforts.
Specific Duties:
A. Media/Public Relations
Establish and manage professional relationships with media personnel.
Write and distribute press releases and coordinate radio and television coverage for organizational events and developments.
Develop and implement media plans and strategies for Community Impact programs and events, United Way Day, Campaign Finale, Days of Action, Live United Awards, Humanitarian of the Year, and other special events and projects.
Track media coverage and produce press summary
B. Website/Social Media
Maintain United Way of the Midlands' online presence, to include website maintenance, social media, blog, and e-newsletters
Assist with the maintenance of the UWM websites, including updating articles and creating new content.
Assist with digital marketing campaigns to generate new donors outside of traditional workplace campaigns.
Develop electronic communications such as invitations, regular e-newsletters and blog posts.
Create, monitor, analyze and make recommendations on social marketing efforts.
Develop and implement social media plans and strategies as part of an overall marketing plan to promote UW events, policy agenda, etc.
Direct and maintain United Way of the Midlands social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
C. Writing/Editing/Graphic Design
Write and edit copy for marketing materials including newsletters, brochures, campaign materials, annual reports, websites, videos and solicitation letters.
Oversee writing/editing assistance for all special events including invitations, scripts and programs.
Create, review and edit materials for all departments as needed.
Assist with design of campaign materials, event invitations and social media graphics.
D. Special Projects and Assignments
Serve as communications liaison for the UWM Young Leaders Society, including all marketing, event promotion and support, graphic design and PR functions.
Project management of select promotional videos working in partnership with contracted videographer.
Explore new relationships to increase awareness of United Way of the Midlands.
Manages interns and volunteers as needed.
Provide marketing support to other UWM departments.
Assist in the planning and execution of all United Way events.
Attend key events outside of normal work hours and assist with set up, cleanup and other duties as necessary.
E. Other
Serve as a representative of United Way. Display courtesy, tact consideration and discretion in all interactions with other members of the UWM community and with the public.
Safeguard all confidential information used in performance of duties.
Other duties as necessary or assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree required, preferably with major course work in Public Relations, Communications, or Advertising/Marketing.
Three or more years of experience in related field.
Established contacts with local media.
Demonstrated strength in writing, editing, design and production of marketing and communications projects.
Experience with website management, social media and electronic communications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and project management skills.
Proficiency in MS Office Programs including MS Office products.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
Ability to work well with others but also work independently.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work well under pressure, produce results, meet deadlines and manage several projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in nonprofit organizations communications.
Experience with digital marketing campaigns including Google AdWords and Facebook Ads
