Registered Nurse (Call Center)
The Call Center Staff Nurse demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. He/She successfully performs activities appropriate to their grade as outlined in the Nurse Qualification Standards. The call Center Nurse is responsible for appropriately triaging calls from properly identified patients and eligible family members requesting information regarding medications, procedures, illnesses, injuries, appointment and diagnostic test results, and those needing social support. The Call Center Nurse speaks with Veterans in all age groups and fully documents the calls as to reason, actions, advice, or requested actions for the providers. The Call Center Nurse provides appropriate education and advice based on approved evidence-based resources. The Call Center Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families in a nursing care unit/area. He/she is accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice. The incumbent reports directly to the Nurse Manager of the call center unit/area. The staff nurse serves as a role model when functioning as team leader or charge nurse under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee. The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. May be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation or operative/invasive procedures. May occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders.
