Medical Record Technician (Coder)

This position is scheduled to transfer to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) no later than 30 Sept 2021 in accordance with the provisions of Section 702 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017, Public Law 114-328. The Act directed the DHA to take responsibility for the administration (i.e., authority, direction, and control) of military treatment facilities beginning 1 Oct 18. Employees will become DoD employees upon transfer to the DHA. Who May Apply:

Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes 1) reviewing medical record documentation by the provider and evaluating the accuracy of medical codes assigned. Makes corrections and assigns additional codes if needed; 2) utilizing various office automated systems and software for coding medical records and processing reports; 3) preparing documents for presentation and training; 4) abstract ICD10 diagnosis and procedure codes from documentation written by provider, assigning the appropriate International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10), diagnosis codes, Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), Evaluation and Management Codes utilizing a Mapping Tool and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
