Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (MRI)

Duties include but are not limited to:
Incumbent determines staffing requirements and develops the weekly and monthly schedules. This individual organizes staff work assignments, including lunch and break rotations. Reports absences and/or tardiness to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner Participates in training and evaluation of MRI Technologist, utilizing formal orientation and evaluation programs. Recommends, coordinates and evaluates new or modified procedures/protocols with submittal and approval by the Chief of Radiology. Coordinates the distribution of adequate quantities of supplies for the MRI Section are available to meet workload demands through a systemized process of ordering, receipt and inventory control. Assures MRI patients are screened in advance for any contraindicating conditions per Imaging Service policy. Explains examinations to be performed to patients so they understand the purpose of the study as well as any requirements of the patients so they understand the potential hazards, if any are possible. Performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) of the head, neck spine, chest, breast, body, and extremities using applicable coils, with or without contrast. Super-user for reconstruction applications and ancillary equipment (i.e. monitoring and screening devices, I.V. Pumps, ventilators, etc.) Utilizes PACS for acquisition, transmission, storage, and review of images, performs QC of all completed studies to ensure timely and accurate interpretation by the radiologist. Confers with radiologists to determine requirements of non-standard exams. Determines technical factors, positioning, number and thickness of scans, etc., to produce quality diagnostic MRI exams. Ability to vary tests or treatment procedures as needed to compensate for patient's individual medical conditions and body habitus. Incumbent will act as liaison between other modalities, management, outside department entities, etc. for purposes of quality/process improvement, patient/customer satisfaction, and effective and timely inter/intra departmental communication. Serves as MRSO and works in collaboration with MR Director, Chief Technologist and Chief of Radiology to perform audits, create programs to ensure MRI Safety and MRI Safety Compliance. Incumbent will attend and conduct meetings regarding MRI Safety. Performs other duties as assigned by management. Work Schedule:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R) and Advanced ARRT certification is required for Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Advanced certification indicates that the technologist has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate's degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from schools accredited by the ARRT and certification by the ARRT in radiology. Credentialing Standards. Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and be certified as radiographers in their field. Experience:
Supervisory experience, must be able to perform various MRI exams, serve as MRSO, perform exams on 1.5 and 3T MRI. Grade Determinations:
GS-10:
At least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-9), directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies described at that level and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk ( ):
a. Ability to balance the needs of patients and staff while still performing complex scans and procedures; b. Knowledge of techniques for gathering relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers; c. Ability to assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure; d. Knowledge of basic first aid and basic life support practices related to radiography; e. Knowledge of physical assessment, aseptic techniques, intravenous methods and techniques and universal precautions; and f. Knowledge of pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care of patients. Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist. The technologist functions as a supervisor for a group of DRTs at the GS-9 level and below which may include support staff. The technologist evaluates new products and equipment, making recommendations to supervisor concerning upgrades/new purchases that would improve operations. The technologist informs higher level management of anticipated staffing variances and informally recommends promotions, reassignments, or other personnel changes such as retention or release of probationary employees, and recognition of superior performance in the diagnostic radiologic area. The technologist directs the development and implementation of services and treatment to patients through the supervision, mentoring, and oversight of assigned clinical staff. Experience must demonstrate practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. The work is primarily non-strenuous though a significant amount of walking is required for face to face contact with patients, family members and medical staff. Ability to life 5- 10 pounds, mostly documents and/or binders is required. The ability to sit for 1-2 hours, and do substantial computer work.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
